With the business end of the club football season fast approaching, now is the ideal time to identify some value in the “outright” betting markets. With final league positions and tournament outcomes still to be decided, there are plenty of decent offerings still available across Europe.
Obviously, you stand to gain very little by predicting that Bayern Munich will win the Bundesliga, but if you are clever with your wagers then money can be made in a number of other areas.
To save you the hassle of sifting through tables, fixture lists and statistics, we have put together a list of 10 football bets that we feel can make you some serious cheddar come May.
Place your bets now and thank us later. You can find out more detailed information on which bookmakers to bet with here.
- Monaco to reach the Champions League final @ 6/1
AS Monaco have become everyone’s second team this season. Their team is packed with exciting and vibrant young footballers and they look set to end PSG’s Ligue 1 dominance for this season at least. Monaco have been equally impressive in this season’s Champions League and their two legged triumph over Man City was only surprising to the uninformed. With momentum behind them, they have every chance of blitzing their way to the final, though winning it outright might be a bridge too far.
- Nancy to be relegated from Ligue 1 @ 11/8
Sitting in 18th position and in horrible form (7 losses from 8), it’s amazing that you can still find odds as good as 11/8 on Nancy to be relegated. They are the lowest scorers in the entire division to boot and look ill equipped to beat the drop. Lump on.
- Robert Lewandowski to be Bundesliga top scorer @ 6/4
Polish himan Lewandowski is currently on 21 league goals for the season, 2 behind Pierre Emerick-Aubameyang. And while Aubameyang’s Dortmund side are known for their cavalier free scoring style, league leaders Bayern have actually scored 7 goals more. With Lewandowski the focal point of their attack, 6/4 is well worth a punt.
- Augsburg to be relegated from the Bundeslia @ 5/1
Augsburg sits 2 points above the relegation zone, just above a Hamburg team who are starting to play themselves into a bit of form. Hamburg have the better players and may just have enough in them to shake off the burden of a dreadful season to secure top flight football for another year. 5/1 is a seriously good offer.
- Leeds United to be promoted through the playoffs @ 11/4
With the two automatic promotion spots all but sealed by Newcastle and Brighton, Leeds will be left to take their chances in the lottery of the playoffs. Could this be the year they finally claw their way back in to the big time? We think so.
- Edin Dzeko to be Serie A top scorer @ 5/2
Although Andrea Belotti is enjoying a sensational breakout season at Torino, Bosnian target man Dzeko plays in far superior Roma side who are more adept at finding the net on a regular basis. Couple this with the fact that Dzeko has scored just one goal less than his Italian counterpart, then it seems logical to predict that he will jump to top spot in the goalscorers chart sooner rather than later.
- Porto to win the Portuguese league @ 11/10
The title race in Portugal is once again a two way battle between perennial challengers Benfica and Porto (surprise surprise!). Porto are 1 point behind their rivals from Lisbon but tend to score more goals than their competitors. For that reason, we think they will eventually pip Benfica to the title.
- Man Utd to win the Europa League @ 6/4
It may surprise you that you can still get positive odds on United to win Europe’s secondary club competition, but indeed you can. With the rest of the teams left looking decidedly beatable, it looks as though the only thing that can stop United is fatigue due to the accumulation of games. They could conceivably run out of gas come May, but 6/4 is too good a price to turn down.
- Leicester to finish in the top half of the Premier League @ 4/1
Despite what will go down as the worst Premier League title defence of all time, Leicester look to have shaken off whatever mental shackles they seemed to be weighed down by for much of the season. Under Craig Shakespeare, much of last season’s relentless running and energy seems to have made a late comeback. The champions are only 3 points off 10th place as it stands and odds of 4/1 are great value for this option.
- Real Madrid to win La Liga and the Champions League at 8/1
Ronaldo and co will be 5 points ahead of Barcelona if they win their game in hand and having lost just 2 league games all season, it seems unlikely that they will lose 2 more in the last 11 games. With the league part sorted, it’s safe to assume Real will go very close to Champions League glory again this year. 8/1 odds to pick up both major trophies seems a very generous price indeed. Get on it.
